1. Something Truly Unique

If you're looking for a wedding experience that is unlike anything else in the United States, Antigua Guatemala is the place to be. The city is steeped in history and culture, with stunning Spanish colonial architecture, picturesque streets, and lively local markets. From my own travels there, I’ve noticed that Antigua has done a standout job of growing a beautiful, touristic city, without making it cheesy or over-Americanized. It’s become an easy destination to get to and from, while still preserving it’s beautiful legacy.

Nicknamed “Land of Eternal Spring”, Guatemala is known for it’s comfortable, year round weather. And because the city sits at 5,000 feet above sea level, Antigua brings a cooler, yet comfortable climate compared to the rest of Guatemala. Just above the horizon of the city sits a few volcanoes, one of which erupts every 20 mins or so. There truly isn’t a place more picturesque for a wedding than Antigua, Guatemala.

2. Not As Difficult As You Might Think

Planning a destination wedding can seem like a daunting task, but getting married in Antigua Guatemala is easier than you might think. While the city may seem worlds away, it’s actually only a 2.5 hour flight from Miami and a 1 hour drive to the city itself. With Antigua being such a popular tourist destination, most vendors (including myself!) in the city speak English and Spanish. Antigua is not a large city, so most of the venues, restaraunts and hotels are within walking distance of eachother. Uber is also an option as well. And while Antigua might be a picturesque, colonial city, you can find/source most of the things you would need for your stay within the city or just outside the city bounds.

I believe that one of the greatest reasons to have a wedding in the beautiful city of Antigua, Guatemala is due to the experience you are able to give your guests. A wedding is a celebration if with all of the people in your life, and to be able to spend the days leading up to that celebration with your people is an experience you will remember for your whole life. It’s no surprise that the US dollar goes much farther in Central America than in the states. Food is cheaper, accomodations are more affordable, and with a competitive wedding market, the quality is top notch. Getting married in Antigua Guatemala is also a great way to support the local economy. The city is filled with beautiful, historical venues that are available for weddings at a fraction of the cost of similar venues in America. Antigua Guatemala is also the perfect destination for couples seeking an intimate wedding with close friends and family. Latino culture, in general, is much more familial than what we might be used to in the United States. Because of this, having a more intimate wedding fits right into the culture here. Less guests means more. It’s easier to do things such as a rehearsal dinner on a rooftop, or an intimate candle lit reception dinner. With fewer guests, you'll be able to focus on the people who matter most and create memories that will last a lifetime.
